ProPhoto galleries can be created in three ways:
- In the Elements > Galleries area of the ProPhoto Visual Builder
- In the WordPress block editor when editing posts or pages
- In theGalleries > Add New area of the WordPress dashboard
Click below for an explanation of each workflow to create and use ProPhoto galleries:
1) Create/insert a gallery in a ProPhoto layout
While customizing a ProPhoto page layout it's handy to create new galleries right there.
To create a new ProPhoto gallery within the layout editor:
- Go to Elements > Galleries > New Gallery
- Choose your images
- Click to "Select"
- The gallery will be created as "New Gallery" and available in the sidebar. Edit the gallery name and arrange the images in the popup.
To add the gallery in your layout drag the gallery from the Visual Builder sidebar into the column where you want it to appear.
When you drop it in place, your gallery will appear and a module settings popup will provide you with controls to choose a specific gallery and a gallery style:
2) Create/insert a gallery while editing posts or pages
When you need to insert a gallery into your WordPress post or page content, follow these steps:
- Click the + button to add a new block in the post/page editor
- Browse or search the blocks for the ProPhoto Gallery block and click to insert the block
- Select an existing ProPhoto gallery or create a new one by uploading photos or selecting images in your Media Library.
- After the gallery is inserted, use the right side toolbar to choose a gallery style.
Here is a demonstration video showing the selection of a ProPhoto gallery that has already been created:
Your gallery can be displayed using any style already available in your design. Or, you can create a new style at any time. For full details about gallery styles and how to set them up, see our separate Gallery Styles guide.
3) Create a gallery in the 'Galleries' dashboard area
Creating a gallery in the main WordPress dashboard Galleries area is very similar to creating a new post or page.
- In your WordPress dashboard go to Galleries > Add New
(or click Add New button from the Galleries > All Galleries screen) - Type a title for the gallery and adjust the address if necessary
- Click Add Images to upload photos or select from your Media Library in the popup
- Publish the gallery
Here are some screenshots of the workflow:
Selecting a style for your gallery is optional. ProPhoto will use your default gallery style if you do not set an explicit gallery style. For full details about gallery styles and how to set them up, see our separate Gallery Styles guide.
Galleries which you have created are all collected in the Galleries > All Galleries screen for editing, and all galleries can be used within posts & pages, or can be added within ProPhoto page layouts.

Open the accordions below to learn about other tasks related to gallery creation.
Reorder Images
Whether you are in the Visual Builder or "Galleries > All Galleries", use the "Add Images" button to add images using WordPress' Media Library functionality. Use cmnd/ctrl + click to select multiple images at once.
After images are in your gallery, you can reorder or delete them. Anywhere the gallery has been inserted will be affected by changes here. Mass reordering by filename, upload order or file created time is possible with the dropdown.
Move single images or groups of images all at once. To select a group of images in a row use shift + click. To add individual images to a group use ctrl/cmd + click. Use the toggle switch to see image filenames is needed.
Apply a gallery Style
All ProPhoto galleries appear on your site using a gallery style from your design. Each gallery style can be found in the ProPhoto "Elements > Galleries > Styles" area where you can also make edits to how each style looks.
To display a gallery with a specific style or appearance, select your preferred style ...
- when creating or editing a gallery module
- when inserting a gallery in the content of a WordPress post/page (explained above)
- when creating or editing a gallery in the WordPress dashboard Galleries > All Galleries area
Publish galleries
A gallery created in the ProPhoto layout builder or in the WordPress post/page editor is automatically published as soon as it is created. A gallery created in Galleries > All Galleries of your dashboard will not published until the Publish button is clicked.
All the standard WordPress publishing options are available allowing you to password protect, save as a draft, keep as private, and schedule for future publishing. To manage the publishing options for any gallery you must edit your gallery in the Galleries > All Galleries area of your dashboard.
Feature an image
Like regular posts/pages, you can select a featured image for a gallery. When your gallery is included in a grid the featured image will be used as the gallery thumbnail in the grid. Featured images will also be used in link previews when sharing your link on social media sites.
Insert a gallery as full sized images
Any ProPhoto gallery inserted in the content of your post/page can be displayed as full size images. The benefits of inserting a ProPhoto gallery as "full size images" style include:
- You don't have to hunt through your media library to find these particular images to insert into your post/page content
- Edits you make to the gallery (add, delete or reorder images) will update anywhere you have inserted the gallery
When inserting a gallery into a post or page choose the gallery style called "Full Size Images" to insert them all as full size. The photos in your gallery will be displayed as though you inserted them one-after-another individually into the post/page content. This option can be seen in the style selector along the right sidebar in the WordPress block editor.
Insert gallery as block background
To apply a gallery as the background of a block in your ProPhoto page layout, follow these steps:
- Edit the block settings and change the block background to "gallery"
- Select a gallery
- Choose a gallery style
For more details on block background gallery options, check out our block background guide.
