Almost all software gets updated, and your website is no different. Because ProPhoto is built using WordPress, there are several pieces of your site that will periodically need updates - ProPhoto itself, WordPress core files and plugins. The good news is that because we manage your site for you, some items updates are automated for you. This includes the ProPhoto theme, and WordPress (with delay, see below).
However, your plugins are not automatically updated. So you will need to check periodically to see if you plugins are up to date. Running outdated versions of plugins can pose possible compatibility and/or security issues for your site. So it's always a good idea to update your plugins when updates become available.
Updating WordPress
WordPress is continually releasing new updates that contain new features and security improvements. As such, we want to make sure you get these updates as soon as possible. However, there can sometimes be incompatibilities or new bugs introduced in these new WordPress releases. So we delay automatically updating WordPress files to the latest version in order to ensure the release is stable. If you see a new WordPress version is available, you can either wait and let WordPress update automatically (once it is deemed stable by our hosting), or, you can update yourself.
In your WordPress admin area, if you go to the "Dashboard > Updates" area, you will see a notice if a WordPress update is available:
Again, you can just wait and it will automatically update on its own when the version is deemed stable. Or, you can update yourself if you prefer by clicking the button to Update.
Update plugins
Whenever one or more of your WordPress plugins is in need of an update, it will be indicated by a little red bubble next to the "Plugins" option in the WordPress admin sidebar.
To update the plugins, you can go to the "Dashboard > Updates" area, select all of the plugins and click "Update Plugins":
(Or, go to the "Plugins > Installed Plugins" area and click the "Update available" link at the top of the screen. Then, check the select all box, and choose Update from the Bulk Actions dropdown. Click the "Apply" button, and then all of the plugins should begin to update automatically.)
Either way, once they are done updating, that's it, you're done!
